Crimes of the Heart by Beth Henley July 11 - August 9 on the Cabaret Stage - Friday & Saturdays at 8 PM, Sundays at 3 PM The scene is Hazlehurst, Mississippi, where the three Magrath sisters have gathered to await news of the family patriarch, their grandfather, who is living out his last hours in the local hospital. Lenny, the oldest sister, is unmarried at thirty and facing diminishing marital prospects; Meg, the middle sister, who quickly outgrew Hazlehurst, is back after a failed singing career on the West Coast; while Babe, the youngest, is out on bail after having shot her husband in the stomach. Their troubles, grave and yet, somehow, hilarious, are highlighted by their priggish cousin, Chick, and by the awkward young lawyer who tries to keep Babe out of jail while helpless not to fall in love with her. In the end the play is the story of how its young characters escape the past to seize the future—but the telling is so true and touching and consistently hilarious that it will linger in the mind long after the curtain has descended. James and the Giant
Peach From the book by Roald Dahl. Dramatized by Richard R. George. July 19 & 26 10 AM & 1 PM A magical peach! An imprisoned boy! Insect friends! An incredible journey! This amazing adventure of James Henry Trotter will fulfill the fantasy of anyone who has ever dreamed of escape. Roald Dahl's story comes hilariously to life in this delightful dramatization that reveals the wickedness of some, the goodness of others, and the indecision encountered by many when they are faced with crises. You will see James (as he cleverly gets the Peach out of danger), the wise Old-Green-Grasshopper and the pessimistic Earthworm. You will also see James' mean Aunt Spiker and cruel Aunt Sponge come to a suitably sticky end. The action is tied together by the Narrator, a storyteller, motivator, emcee and audience friend.

Cat on a Hot Tin Roof by Tennessee Williams August 15 - September 20 on the Rendezvous Stage (In the Round) In a plantation house, a family celebrates the sixty-fifth birthday of Big Daddy, as they sentimentally dub him. The mood is somber, despite the festivities, because a number of evils poison the gaiety: greed, sins of the past and desperate, clawing hopes for the future spar with one another as the knowledge that Big Daddy is dying slowly makes the rounds. Maggie, Big Daddy’s daughter-in-law, wants to give him the news that she’s finally become pregnant by Big Daddy’s favorite son, Brick, but Brick won’t cooperate in Maggie’s plans and prefers to stay in a mild alcoholic haze the entire length of his visit. Maggie has her own interests at heart in wanting to become pregnant, of course, but she also wants to make amends to Brick for an error in judgment that nearly cost her her marriage. Swarming around Maggie and Brick are their intrusive, conniving relatives, all eager to see Maggie put in her place and Brick tumbled from his position of most-beloved son. By evening’s end, Maggie’s ingenuity, fortitude and passion will set things right, and Brick’s love for his father, never before expressed, will retrieve him from his path of destruction and return him, helplessly, to Maggie’s loving arms. No Sex Please, We're
British by Anthony Marriott and Alistair Foot September 5 - October 11 on the Cabaret Stage A young bride who lives above a bank with her husband who is the assistant manager, innocently sends a mail order off for some Scandinavian glassware. What comes is Scandinavian pornography. The plot revolves around what is to be done with the veritable floods of pornography, photographs, books, films and eventually girls that threaten to engulf this happy couple. The matter is considerably complicated by the man's mother, his boss, a visiting bank inspector, a police superintendent and a muddled friend who does everything wrong in his reluctant efforts to set everything right, all of which works up to a hilarious ending of closed or slamming doors. This farce ran in London over eight years and also delighted Broadway audiences.
This show has been submitted to the MAT Awards for the 2008/2009 season.

The Woman In Black by Stephen Mallatrat (Based on the novel by Susan Hill) October 10 - November 8 on the Rendezvous Stage (In the Round) The framework of this spine tingler is unusual: a lawyer hires an actor to tutor him in recounting to family and friends a story that has long troubled him concerning events that transpired when he attended the funeral of an elderly recluse. There he caught sight of the woman in black, the mere mention of whom terrifies the locals, for she is a specter who haunts the neighborhood where her illegitimate child was accidentally killed. Anyone who sees her dies! The lawyer has invited some friends to watch as he and the actor recreate the events of that dark and stormy night. A classic of the genre. Online Tickets Available Soon

A Tuna Christmas by Ed Howard, Joe Sears and Jaston Williams November 28 - December 20 on the Cabaret Stage
In this hilarious sequel to Greater Tuna,
it's Christmas in the third smallest town in Texas. Radio station OKKK
news personalities Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie report on various
Yuletide activities, including hot competition in the annual lawn display
contest. In other news, voracious Joe Bob Lipsey's production of "A
Christmas Carol" is jeopardized by unpaid electric bills. Many colorful
Tuna denizens, some you will recognize from Greater Tuna and some
appearing here for the first time, join in the holiday fun. A Tuna
Christmas is a total delight for all seasons, whether performed by
two quick changing comedians as on Broadway or by twenty or more.
Production requirements are minimal, making the play suitable for school
and community producers as well as large venues. Audiences who have and
who have not seen Greater Tuna will enjoy this laugh filled
evening. | |
