The Producers (A Metro
Atlanta Premiere) Book by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan Music by Mel Brooks and Glen Kelly Lyrics by Mel Brooks May 29 - June 27 on the Rendezvous Stage (In the Round) and the Cabaret Stage Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, Sundays at 3 PM Buy your tickets in advance either online or over the phone and get "Priority Seating" Bialystock and Bloom! Those names should strike terror and hysteria in anyone familiar with Mel Brooks’ classic cult comedy film. Now as a big Broadway musical, The Producers once again sets the standard for modern, outrageous, in-your-face humor. It is a truly “boffo” hit, winning a record twelve Tony® Awards and wowing capacity crowds night after night. The plot is simple: a down-on-his-luck Broadway producer and his mild-mannered accountant come up with a scheme to produce the most notorious flop in history thereby bilking their backers (all “little old ladies”) out of millions of dollars. Only one thing goes awry: the show is a smash hit! The antics of Max Bialystock and Leo Bloom as they maneuver their way fecklessly through finding a show (the gloriously offensive “Springtime For Hitler”), hiring a director, raising the money and finally going to prison for their misdeeds is a lesson in broad comic construction. At the core of the insanely funny adventure is a poignant emotional journey of two very different men who become friends. With a truly hysterical book co-written by Mel Brooks and Thomas Meehan (Annie) and music and lyrics by Mr. Brooks, The Producers skewers Broadway traditions and takes no prisoners as it proudly proclaims itself an “equal opportunity offender!” Rated PG-13 for adult content & language | |

July 31 - August 29 on the Cabaret Stage This night in September of 1934 is the biggest in the history of the Cleveland Grand Opera Company world famous tenor Tito Morelli is to perform Otello, his greatest role, at the gala season opener. Saunders, the General Manager, hopes this will put Cleveland on the operatic map. Morelli is late; when he finally sweeps in it is too late to rehearse with the company. His pulse is so low that Saunders and his assistant Max believe he is dead. What to do? Sweeney Todd Book by Hugh Wheeler Music by Stephen Sondheim Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim Based on a version of Sweeney Todd by Christopher Bond September 11 - October 10 on the Rendezvous Stage (In the Round) Fridays and Saturdays at 8 PM, Sundays at 3 PM
The rare instance of
a musical thriller, chilling, suspenseful, heart pounding masterpiece of
murderous barberism and culinary crime tells the infamous tale of the
unjustly exiled barber who returns to 19th century London
seeking revenge against the lecherous judge who framed him and ravaged his
young wife. His thirst for blood soon expands to include his unfortunate
customers, and the resourceful proprietress, Mrs. Lovett, soon has the
people of London lining up in droves with her mysterious new meat pie
recipe. Sophisticated, macabre, visceral
and uncompromising, “Sweeney Todd” nevertheless has a great sense of fun,
mixing intense drama with howlingly funny moments of dark humor: audiences
find themselves laughing hysterically one moment and gasping in surprise
the next. | |

Don't Dress For Dinner
October 23 - November 14 on the Rendezvous Stage (In the Round) Bernard is planning a weekend with his chic Parisian mistress in a French farmhouse. He has arranged for a cordon bleu cook to prepare gourmet delights, is packing his wife Jacqueline off to her mother's, and has even invited his best friend to provide the alibi. It's foolproof; what could possibly go wrong? Suppose Robert turns up not knowing why he has been invited? Suppose Robert and Jacqueline are secret lovers? What happens if the cook is mistaken for the mistress and the mistress is unable to cook? An evening of hilarious confusion ensues as Bernard and Robert improvise at breakneck speed. This farcical concoction involves a married couple, an old friend, a voluptuous mistress and an outlandish cook who's enlisted to take on different identities in a succession of lies, deceptions and misunderstandings. The plot is a recipe for hilarious confusion with more twists than a corkscrew. Rated PG-13 for mild adult
